Se caracteriza por sus emocionales composiciones transmitidas mediante letras oscuras y una cuidada teatralidad en el escenario; Marillion es quizás la banda más importante del género.

El pop en los años 80:

En la década de los 80 se vuelve la vista atrás otra vez con ciertas adaptaciones como el rock autóctono, el reggae, el punk o la new wave y se introduce una enorme renovación en cuanto a la instrumentación con la adaptación de la cibernética, así los instrumentos electrónicos van desplazando unas veces y conviviendo otras con los instrumentos tradicionales.
